Local Nature Recovery Strategies for West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton & Hove – published!
We are delighted to announce the publication of both Sussex Local Nature Recovery Strategies. Three years in the making, this milestone completes their preparation and signals the start of an exciting new phase: their implementation.
Thank you!
We are incredibly grateful to the thousands of individuals and organisations who helped shape the strategy over the last 3 years, including through the public consultation. The passion, commitment and connection to nature within our local community has been clear throughout.
This work would not have been possible without the support of the Sussex Nature Partnership who helped steer the development of the strategies, along with the Sussex Biodiversity Record Centre who developed the maps, our Working Group, Supporting Authority Group and our many local wildlife experts, land managers, recorders and communities who provided ideas, data and knowledge.
Endorsement for the strategies
James Seymour - Natural England, Deputy Director for Sussex and Kent said:
“Having worked in conservation in Sussex for over 25 years, the publication of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy represents a real first. The outcome of coming together to collectively discuss how we restore nature, so that everyone can contribute to shaping a shared strategy for Sussex.
This builds on the successes achieved to date, but also reflects a clear recognition that, without a more joined-up approach and sustained investment, we will not meet our ambition of restoring nature. The LNRS provides the framework to achieve this. Ultimately, it highlights both the necessity and the opportunity of working together to restore nature, and the value this will bring to everyone living and working in Sussex.”
What happens next?
The Sussex Nature Recovery team is now looking towards delivery and how the principles and recommendations in the two strategies can be implemented. To find out more about the emerging approach, read our recent news article, and check here regularly to find out about progress and events.
