In April 2024, an all day, in person workshop brought together 44 representatives from 30 of the key delivery organisations and partnerships for nature working in Sussex. Attendees included:
- NGOs/Charities: Sussex Wildlife Trust, RSPB, National Trust, Woodland Trust, Ouse & Adur Rivers Trust, Western Sussex Rivers Trust etc.
- Government agencies: Natural England, Forestry Commission and Environment Agency
- Catchment partnerships members including water companies
- Placed-based nature recovery initiatives: Wilder Horsham, Weald to Waves, Wilder Ouse, Ashdown Forest, Sussex Bay etc.
- National landscapes: South Downs National Park Authority, High Weald, Chichester Harbour
This initial workshop sought to bring key delivery and enabling organisations together to both contribute to, and become more familiar with, Local Nature Recovery Strategies for Sussex, including:
- Reviewing the big overarching priorities for nature’s recovery in Sussex.
- Understanding attendee organisations’ short-medium term priorities and plans.
- Getting a sense of what they want reflected in the LNRS.
This second event in September will bring the same organisations and partnerships together for another one day workshop to input into LNRS preparation for West and East Sussex. More details to follow.
