A key stakeholder group for Local Nature Recovery Strategies are those already active in nature’s recovery.

This group, which includes community groups, local councils, NGOs and others, have existing priorities and projects for nature, as well as on-the-ground knowledge and experience. As well as contributing to LNRS priorities for nature's recovery, they can also play an important role delivering the measures identified by the strategies. In March 2024, a bespoke webinar for this group outlined the ways those based in Sussex can participate.

In February 2024 a survey launched to canvas what those already working in nature’s recovery on the ground think is important, and to hear about their projects and plans.

This interim view of results (the survey closes in October 2024) was created on 29th July when the survey had 85 responses.

It provides a snapshot of the interests and activities of responding organisations and groups including:

  • The habitats and species they are concerned with
  • Current projects and where these are located
  • A flagship project for the community group or organisation, along with the results and status of this (where known)
  • Barriers they face when striving to act for nature

Next steps – Mapping actions for nature

These survey responses will inform the two Sussex strategies. Organisations and groups active in nature’s recovery are also encouraged to add their planned or implemented projects to the new Map your actions for nature tool to provide a spatial of view of where efforts and opportunities are concentrated.

Note: Key delivery organisations and partnerships for nature in Sussex, such as those represented by the Sussex Nature Partnership have provided their priorities, projects and plans as part of a separate exercise for Sussex LNRS, and so are not represented in this survey.
